Charles Darwin's groundbreaking work "Origin of Species" published

On this day in 1859, Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection" was published in England. This was the work that introduced his theory on "natural selection".

Darwin travelled a lot for research purposes, even going to places such as the Galapagos Islands and New Zealand in order to acquire intimate knowledge of the flora, fauna, and geology of many lands. This information, along with his studies in variation and interbreeding after returning to England, proved invaluable in the development of his theory of organic evolution.
