King Kamehameha I Day (Hawaii)
King Kamehameha I Day on June 11 is a public holiday in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It honours Kamehameha the Great, the king who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaii. He was considered to be a great statesman for his diplomacy and came to be known as Napoleon of the Pacific.
This day has been observed since 1872. Nowadays, the day involves a floral and draping ceremony (at the US Capitol).
